PRIORITIES
If we were to convince society to strive towards creating
a better world, we would address all of the problems
that endanger our future.
-- Robert
Alan Silverstein
When
we convince the people and the nations of our planet
to make 'striving for a better world' our priority
and shared goal, we will transform our culture of
fear and violence into a 'culture of peace and sustainability.'
-- Robert
Alan Silverstein
Whenever
we feel overwhelmed by the amount that needs to be
done, or caught up in a moment of anger, we need to
take time out for peace of mind.
For some, prayer or meditation will be the way to
refocus and remember our higher purpose. Simply stopping
for a moment and taking a deep breath and counting
to ten, is sometimes all that we need to pull us out
of a situation so that we can pause, and refocus and
restore the balance of purpose and direction.

Robert
Alan Silverstein
The
life of a peacebuilder is a daily decision to refocus
and rededicate ourselves to put 'creating a better world'
first in our list of priorities. We refocus and rededicate
our lives by allowing ourselves to feel inner peace
so that we can once again see our greater purpose and
know that our lives are making a difference. We are
part of a movement that has worked throughout history
towards humanity's greatest goal - creating a more peaceful,
just and sustainable world.
-- Robert
Alan Silverstein
“From
this vision of the role of the United Nations in the
next century flow three key priorities for the future:
eradicating poverty, preventing conflict and promoting
democracy.”
-- Kofi
Annan
On
this International Day, let us promise to make peace
not just a priority, but a passion. Let us pledge
to do more, wherever we are in whatever way we can,
to make every day a day of peace."
-- Ban
Ki-moon

No
piecemeal solution is going to prevent the collapse
of whole societies and ecosystems ... a radical re-thinking
of our values, priorities and political systems is
urgent.
-- Maude
Barlow
The
United States of America will be a more sustainable
society when we eliminate wasteful defense spending
and instead invest in the foundations of a strong
economy and a prosperous and productive future, by
enhancing areas such as education, healthcare and
green infrastructure. The role of Business Leaders
for Sensible Priorities is to leverage the credibility
of business leaders on fiscal issues to draw the attention
of policy decision makers, the media and the public
to how the federal budget is currently allocated and
help to create a climate where changed budget priorities
can become a reality.
-- Mission Statement of Business Leaders for Sensible
Priorities
You
have to decide what your highest priorities are and
have the courage - pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically
- to say 'no' to other things. And the way to do that
is by having a bigger 'yes' burning inside. The enemy
of the 'best' is often the 'good.'
-- Stephen Covey
As
we progress into the twenty-first century, anyone
who considers themselves a realist will have to make
the environment a top priority.
- Leonardo
DiCaprio
We
do not have a money problem in America. We have a
values and priorities problem.
-- Marian
Wright Edelman
"Not
everything that can be counted counts, and not everything
that counts can be counted."
-- Albert
Einstein
By
its existence, the Peace Movement denies that governments
know best; it stands for a different order of priorities:
the human race comes first.
-- Martha Gellhorn
*
We
have a duty to look after each other. If we lose control
of our government, then we lose our ability to dispense
justice and human kindness. Our first priority today,
then, is to defeat utterly those forces of greed and
corruption that have come between us and our self-governance. -- Doris
Haddock (Granny D)
This
is a very important practice. Live your daily life
in a way that you never lose yourself. When you are
carried away with your worries, fears, cravings, anger,
and desire, you run away from yourself and you lose
yourself. The practice is always to go back to oneself.
-- Thich
Nhat Hanh

"The vision I see is not only a movement of direct
democracy, of self- and co-determination and non-violence,
but a movement in which politics means the power to
love and the power to feel united on the spaceship
Earth... In a world struggling in violence and dishonesty,
the further development of non-violence - not only
as a philosophy but as a way of life, as a force on
the streets, in the market squares, outside the missile
bases, inside the chemical plants and inside the war
industry - becomes one of the most urgent priorities."
-- Petra
Kelly
The
fight against hunger and poverty is also predicated
on the creation of a world order that accords priority
to social and economic development.
-- Lula
If with so little we have done so much in Brazil,
imagine what could have been done on a global scale,
if the fight against hunger and poverty were a real
priority for the international community.
-- Luiz
Lula da Silva

"What can we do to make the world's children a priority..."
-- Alyssa
Milano
I
learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything...
at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities
not in terms of what activities you do, but when you
do them. Timing is everything.
- Dan Millman
You can't move so fast that you try to change the
mores faster than people can accept it. That doesn't
mean you do nothing, but it means that you do the
things that need to be done according to priority.
-- Eleanor
Roosevelt

feel my family's needs are a priority. I'm not comfortable
with the idea of serving the many and ignoring my
family."
-- Susan

*Childhood
hunger in America is as much a paradox as it is a
tragedy. Why, in the wealthiest country in the world,
should hunger darken the lives and dreams of 12 million
children and their families? I believe that, when
Americans learn the facts and understand how their
involvement can make a difference, banishing childhood
hunger will be a national, local and personal priority.
-- Martin
Sheen

“Our
personal consumer choices have ecological, social,
and spiritual consequences. It is time to re-examine
some of our deeply held notions that underlie our
lifestyles.”

Wise
are those who learn that the bottom line doesn't always
have to be their top priority.
