MOVEMENT
We
can change the system by helping people see that there
really is a movement for a better world emerging all
around us. -- Robert
Alan Silverstein
There
is so much going on for a better world all around
us that the mainstream media never shares. Throughout
history, there have been many social movements for
change ... for democracy, for the abolition of slavery,
women's rights, for peace, for the environment ...
Many advancements have been made, but each of these
causes is just part of larger wish for a more peaceful,
just and sustainable world. These diverse movements
for thousands of different causes are beginning to
converge and a more holistic movement --what UNESCO
has described as a 'global movement for a culture
of peace' -- is beginning to emerge. The Culture
of Peace Movement is helping to unite the strengths
of existing organizations and individuals so that
creating a culture of peace really is now possible.

Robert
Alan Silverstein
If
we look back at the course of history, we can see
how the many different movements for a better world
have evolved and have helped us to get to this moment.
The goals of each of these movements have been converging,
and a new holistic movement is emerging.
-- Robert
Alan Silverstein
"Human
history has been recorded as a succession of wars
and changing empires. But a ray of hope has been
carried forth throughout the ages by dreamers who
have envisioned a more peaceful, just and sustainable
world. The Magna Carta, the US Constitution and
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights were quantum
leaps forward in our collective quest for a better
world. We still have far to go, but we can help
create that better world countless dreamers have
imagined, wished for and endeavored to make come
true. Every moment has brought us to this moment.
We are the ones we've been waiting for to manifest
our shared peacetopian dream."
-- Robert
Alan Silverstein
"Do
you wish for a better world? You are not alone! There
is so much going on to help make this world a better
place that the mainstream media never shows us. Many
diverse movements for change have been converging
into a more holistic, global movement for a better
world. This emerging movement does not belong to any
one group or organization, but together we are helping
create a more peaceful, just and sustainable world,
one act of compassion at a time... Every act of compassion
makes a difference! Do One Thing for a better world.
Together we make a world of difference!"
-- Robert
Alan Silverstein
As
peacemakers, we are part of a movement that has worked
throughout history towards humanity's greatest goal
- creating a culture of peace.
-- Robert

Earth
Day is the perfect opportunity to get people to tap-into
the better world movement, so that they can find the
inspiration and encouragement to continue activities
for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world all
year long.
-- Robert
Alan Silverstein
We
refocus and rededicate our lives by allowing ourselves
to feel inner peace so that we can once again see
our greater purpose and know that our lives as peacebuilders
are making a difference. We are part of a movement
that has worked throughout history towards humanity's
greatest goal - creating a culture of peace.

the Internet can be a maze of information overload,
this social networking tool is also being used to

Changing the structure and rules of the global economy
will require a mass movement based on messages of
compassion, justice, and equality, as well as collaborative
and democratic processes ... If we stay positive,
inclusive, and democratic, we have a truly historic
opportunity to build a global movement for social
justice.
-- Medea
Benjamin
"The
power of a movement lies in the fact that it can indeed
change the habits of people. This change is not the
result of force but of dedication, of moral persuasion.

Women have a lot to say about how to advance women's

to the movement and respond. --

The
strength of the movement is still something that you
will never see on camera, because it doesn't happen
at the big protests. But the strength of this movement
is rooted in the strength of its components and of
the campaigns of its components. So there are farm
movements around the world; there are environmental
movements around the world; labor movements around
the world involved in daily struggles around living
wages, around protecting the rights of farmers to
their seeds, and so on. Those struggles continue on
a daily basis; they have not gone away.

Every
night on the stop global warming college tour, Laurie
and I would tell these great young people that they
have the power to do anything they want. That we all
have the power to create a movement for change. That
the best part of ourselves is the part that rises up
instinctively from compassion.

Every

"...we
will need to keep building the movement, networking

If
you look around Green Festival, you'd be convinced
that the movement for a just and sustainable world
is booming. But is it? The answer is a resounding
'yes'! And success is being fueled by creative, passionate,
people using powerful economic strategies to promote
fair trade, renewable energy, local economies, and
investment in healthy communities.

The
social potential movement is on the threshold of a
mass awakening, seeking to carry into society what
individuals have learned spiritually and personally.
-- Barbara

There
has always been a longing in the human heart for a
more just, free, loving and creative society. But
it was never before possible to fulfill these aspirations,
because we had neither the evolutionary drivers and
global crises to force us to change, nor did we have
the scientific and technological powers that can free
us from the limitations of scarcity, poverty, disease,
and ignorance. This is the time of awakening for the
social potential movement.

So

"The vision I see is not only a movement of direct
democracy, of self- and co-determination and non-violence,
but a movement in which politics means the power to
love and the power to feel united on the spaceship
Earth... In a world struggling in violence and dishonesty,
the further development of non-violence - not only
as a philosophy but as a way of life, as a force on
the streets, in the market squares, outside the missile
bases, inside the chemical plants and inside the war
industry - becomes one of the most urgent priorities."

As
citizen-activists the world over merge, they can become
an irresistible force to create peace and protect
the planet. From here will come a new movement to
abolish nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction.
From here will come the demand for sustainable communities,
for new systems of energy, transportation and commerce.
From here comes the future rushing in on us. How does
one acquire the capacity for active citizenship? The
opportunities exist every day...Active citizenship
begins with an envisioning of the desired outcome
and a conscious application of spiritual principles.

…in
place of the Old Bottom Line of money and power, a New
Bottom Line of Love and Generosity is possible. People
of all faiths need to shape a political and social movement
that reaffirms the most generous, peace-oriented, social
justice-committed, and loving truths of the spiritual
heritage of the human race.

In
less than a century we experienced great movement.
The youth movement! The labor movement! The civil
rights movement! The peace movement! The solidarity
movement! The women's movement! The disability movement!
The disarmament movement! The gay rights movement!
The environmental movement! Movement! Transformation!
Is there any reason to believe we are done?

Lovers of freedom, lovers of social justice, disarmers,
peacekeepers, civil disobeyers, democrats, civil-rights
activists, and defenders of the environment are legions
in a single multiform cause, and they will gain strength
by knowing it, taking encouragement from it, and when
appropriate and opportune, pooling their efforts.
-- Jonathan
Schell
Civilization can only revive when there shall come
into being in a number of individuals a new tone of
mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds,
and in opposition to it -- a tone of mind which will
gradually win influence over the collective one, and
in the end determine its character. Only an ethical
movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical
comes into existence only in individuals.

Schweitzer
