Citizens United
...corporate
personhood is a real scandal...the meaning of the
14th Amendment was expanded so that 'person' included
corporations, and over the years corporations have
gotten rights that are way beyond those of persons
of flesh and blood...there's plenty of anti-corporate
feeling in the country but it's unfocused... a constitutional
amendment would be a great idea... there has to be
a lot of organizing and educational work to build
up a major groundwell of support which will call for
restoring the 14th Amendment to what the words say...the
idea that a corporation should be given personal rights
is a major attack on classical liberal doctrines which
held that rights inhere in 'persons' - persons of
flesh and blood, not collectivist legal entities established
by state power...

This
is a crucial time in the fight for corporate civil
rights. Just look at the hateful signs at Occupy Wallstreet:
'Corporations Are Not People!' Wow, I thought we were
past the point in this country where some people aren't
people just because they have different color skin
or different religion or were born in a lawyer's office,
only exist on paper, have no soul and can never die.
-- Stephen
Colbert
“Let
freedom ka-ching...Corporations do everything people
do except breathe, die and go to jail for dumping
1.3 million pounds of PCBs in the Hudson River.
-- Stephen
Colbert
Corporations
have free speech, but they can't speak like you and
me. They don't have mouths or hands ...(Just A Giant
Middle Finger) -- Stephen
Colbert
Citizens
United said that transparency would be the disinfectant,
but (c)(4)’s are warm, wet, moist incubators. There
is no disinfectant. -- Stephen
Colbert

"If there was one decision I would overrule, it
would be Citizens United. I think the notion that we
have all the democracy that money can buy strays so
far from what our democracy is supposed to be.”

challege the underlying concepts of corporate personhood

It's
time for us to review the circumstances under which
corporations gain rights superior to that of individuals
in our society. It's time for us to look at the practices
of corporations and holding them accountable for violations
of law which often go unnoticed because there is very
little regulation.

You
can't have a people's democracy as long as corporations
are considered people.
-- Bill
Moyers
“Capitalism
is out of control, thanks in no small part to Citizens
United, the Supreme Court decision which said that a
corporation is a person, even though it doesn't eat,
drink, make love, sing, raise children or take care
of aging parents. You can't have a people's democracy
as long as corporations are considered people.”

Moyers

"The
billionaires and their super PACs increasingly control
the American political process. This is not democracy.
This is not what brave Americans fought and died to
defend. This is oligarchy. This is government of the
few, by the few and for the few. We must overturn Citizen
United and move to public funding of elections."
~ Sen.
Bernie Sanders

"As
a result of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision,
American democracy is being undermined by the ability
of the Koch brothers and other billionaire families.
These wealthy contributors can literally buy politicians
and elections by spending hundreds of millions of dollars
in support of the candidates of their choice. We need
to overturn Citizens United and move toward public funding
of elections so that all candidates can run for office
without being beholden to the wealthy and powerful."
~ Sen.
Bernie Sanders

"There
are three major political organizations in this country:
the Republican Party, the Democratic Party and the Koch
Brothers Party. With billions to spend on campaigns.
think tanks and 'educational' organizations, the Koch
brothers are the most powerful. We must overturn Citizens
United, move to public funding of elections and pass
real tax reform."

"In
the last presidential election Obama and Romney raised
about $1 billion each. The Koch brothers, the second
wealthiest family in America, now say they will raise
nearly $1 billion for the 2016 elections. When one family
can raise as much as an entire party, the system is
broken. This is oligarchy, not democracy. We must overturn
Citizens United."

Fighting
Corporate Personhood can be a tangible realistic goal
to focus the Occupy Movement, and greatly accelerate
the widespread emerging global holistic movement for
a more peaceful, just and sustainable world that can
transform our global economy into a true global community.

You
can help end corporate control of our democracy. Help
pass local, state and national legislation revoking

I
still do not understand how a corporation can have person-hood
if it has no soul and never dies.

whose delusional mind is democracy made better by allowing
wealthy people to control more of it?

What
we have now is a situation where politicians get a whole
bunch of money from mainly business interests. Then
once they hold that office, they spend all their time
in office paying back over and over again those campaign
contributions through various favors and contracts and
that sort of thing.
