PLAN
|
The
human race may be compared to a writer. At the outset
a writer has often only a vague general notion of
the plan of his work, and of the thought he intends
to elaborate. As he proceeds, penetrating his material,
laboring to express himself fitly, he lays a firmer
grasp on his thought; he finds himself. So the human
race is writing its story, finding itself, discovering
its own underlying purpose, revising, recasting a
tale pathetic often, yet none the less sublime.

Adler

Many
documents have been created as attempts to lay out in
a concrete way the conditions that are necessary to
create a better world. The United Nations' Declaration
of Human Rights, for instance is still a shining example
of how we should be treating each other. The Earth Charter
was produced after thousands of individuals collaborated
for more than ten years. It sets forth a wonderful blueprint
for a more peaceful, just and sustainable planet. The
Better World Handbook provides an extensive look at
the problems facing our world, and hands-on ways that
we can solve these problems and create a better world.

“Despite
the threat of global terror hanging over all of us,
there is only one path: to pursue the Millennium Development
Goals with fresh resolve –confronting violence, bigotry
and hatred with the same determination that we attack
the causes from which they spring – conflict, ignorance,
poverty and disease. The world we seek, where every
child can grow to adulthood in health, peace and dignity
– in short, a world fit for children – has remained
a dream for more years than we can count. But we at
UNICEF are convinced that working together with committed
partners, and with an appropriate plan of action and
a commitment to resources, we can make that dream
a reality for each and every child on earth.”
-- Carol
Bellamy

"I
don't wish to defend everything that has been done
in the name of utopia. But I think that many of the
attacks misconceive its nature and function. As I
have tried to suggest, utopia is not mainly about
providing detailed blueprints for social reconstruction.
Its concern with ends is about making us think about
possible worlds. It is about inventing and imagining
worlds for our contemplation and delight. It opens
up our minds to the possibilities of the human condition.
It is this that we most seem to need at the present
time. There are doomsters enough-though they have
their part to play, like the prophets of old, warning
and admonishing. There are also our latter-day millenarians,
somewhat jaded in their outlook on the world, and
rather prepared to settle for a quiet life and the
idle ticking-over of the engine of history. Without
wishing to bang the inspiration drum too loudly, this
hardly seems enough."
-- Malcolm Bull
"Make
no little plans; they have no magic to stir men’s
blood. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work."
-- Daniel Hudson Burnham
“A
man who does not plan long ahead will find trouble
right at his door” Confucius quotes
A
good plan implemented today is better than a perfect
plan that is put off. Do the best you can, but do
it today.
-- John Di Frances

Long
range planning does not deal with future decisions,
but with the future of present decisions. -- Peter

We are all together in this, we are all together in
this single living ecosystem called planet earth.
As we learn how we fit into the greater scheme of
things, and begin to understand how the system works,
we can plan ahead, we can use the resources responsibly,
to show some respect for this inheritance that goes
back 4.6 billion years.

Earle

To
accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also
dream; not only plan, but also believe.

"To

with one another, planning, strategizing, and moving
forward. Our children's futures, and those of their
unborn children, are at stake."

Our
goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan,
in which we must fervently believe, and upon which
we must vigorously act. There is no other route to
success.

Without
leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement

All
endeavor calls for the ability to tramp the last mile,
shape the last plan, endure the last hours toil. The
fight to the finish spirit is the one... characteristic
we must posses if we are to face the future as finishers.

how good things are. Joy is not necessarily what happens
when things unfold according to our plans."

I
avoid grandiose plans. I start with a small piece
that I can do. I go to the root of the problem and
then work around it. It's building brick by brick.
