POSITIVITY
*
The positive value of anger is not limited to peace
activists, but is relevant to all who work for social
change. It may be argued that anger is the personal
fuel in the social motor that resolves the institutional
contradictions that arise in the course of history.
As such. it applies to the activists who rid the world
of slavery, and who moved the political economic systems
from feudalism to capitalism and from capitalism to
socialism, and who are fighting today to rid the world
of racism and sexism.

Adams

Changing the structure and rules of the global economy
will require a mass movement based on messages of
compassion, justice, and equality, as well as collaborative
and democratic processes ... If we stay positive,
inclusive, and democratic, we have a truly historic
opportunity to build a global movement for social
justice.
-- Medea
Benjamin

Democracy
is the ultimate, positive revolution because it gives
each and every individual the power to control their
lives. And we can work together to create a just, sustainable
world.
-- Bill Blackman |

Do not waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against
the bad, but chant the beauty of the good.
~ Ralph

I
see religion as a powerful positive healing force for
this nation and the world. But that force is blunted,
weakened, compromised inestimably, if we turn religion
into a tool for advancing political strategy; if we
make it a matter of how to win political office; if
we treat it as anything other than a sacred part of
life from which we ought to draw sustenance and values
and strength for living courageously as good citizens.

Welton Gaddy |

Though
we all have the fear and the seeds of anger within
us, we must learn not to water those seeds and instead
nourish our positive qualities – those of compassion,
understanding, and loving kindness.

Nhat Hanh

Somehow we must transform the dynamics of the world
power struggle from the negative nuclear arms race
which no one can win to a positive contest to harness
man's creative genius for the purpose of making peace
and prosperity a reality for all of the nations of
the world.
--
Martin

So
we must fix our vision not merely on the negative
expulsion of war, but upon the positive affirmation
of peace.

We could dramatically accelerate innovations in sustainability
and social justice just by making choices to use our
money for positive solutions.

You
have much more power when you are working for the
right thing than when you are working against the
wrong thing. And, of course, if the right thing is
established wrong things will fade away of their own
accord.

Thinking about how the world might be and envisioning
a society characterized by justice are the essence
of conceptualizing the conditions that comprise positive
peace. If we are to educate for peace, both teachers
and students need to have some notion of the transformed
world we are educating for.

Reardon

"...our
children are viscerally aware of the heightened violence
on this planet. It has permeated every aspect of their
lives. They are hungry to make a difference, desperate
to affect their reality in a positive way, but they
are unsure of how to do it."

Robins
