“Change
your language and you change your thoughts.”
-- Karl Albrecht
You
probably know that many of the world's plants and
animals are in danger of extinction, but did you know
that many human languages are in danger of becoming
extinct, too? Globalization has helped to make the
world a smaller place. But it has also contributed
to the loss of many languages around the world. Every
two weeks another language disappears forever! Once
a language is lost, humanity loses a part of our rich
heritage. Helping to preserve endangered languages
is important to keep traditions alive.

Alan Silverstein

If our

“Language is a process of free creation; its laws
and principles are fixed, but the manner in which
the principles of generation are used is free and
infinitely varied. Even the interpretation and use
of words involves a process of free creation.”

“If
language is not correct, then what is said is not what is
meant; if what is said is not what is meant, then what must
be done remains undone; if this remains undone, morals and
art will deteriorate; if justice goes astray, the people
will stand about in helpless confusion. Hence there must
be no arbitrariness in what is said. This matters above
everything.”
-- Confucius

There's an aspect of human nature in which we want
to think we're better than somebody else. They're
a different color. They speak a different language.
They have a different name for the Creator. Whatever
it is, that makes it okay for me to hate them, to
try to get some of their land or some of their resources.

Denver

Every individual is at once the beneficiary and
the victim of the linguistic tradition into which
he has been born...
~ Aldous
Huxley
Every
individual is at once the beneficiary and the victim
of the linguistic tradition into which he has been
born - the beneficiary inasmuch as language
gives access to the accumulated records of other
people's experience, the victim in so far as it
confirms him in the belief that reduced awareness
is the only awareness and as it bedevils his sense
of reality, so that he is all too apt to take his
concepts for data, his words for actual things.
~ Aldous
Huxley

Thanks
to words, we have been able to rise above the brutes;
and thanks to words, we have often sunk to the level of
the demons.

Our
native language is like a second skin, so much a part
of us we resist the idea that it is constantly changing,
constantly being renewed.

“Language
is the soul of intellect, and reading is the essential
process by which that intellect is cultivated beyond the

“Language
