The International Day of Peace has been a focal point for community-uniting and peace-inspiring events since its inception in 1981. If all of the events and activities that have taken place for the International Day of Peace over the years were to occur on this International Day of Peace, it would be the greatest day in all of history. This ongoing pictoral archive represents just a tiny fraction of the hundreds of thousands of events and activities that have taken place. It is meant to inspire you to organize or participate in a peace-building event in your community on the International Day of Peace or during the countdown to Peace.

2005- The Sierra Waldorf School participated in the Roots & Shoots Peace Day in honor of the International Day of Peace.

2005- The APES Homeschool Roots & Shoots chapter flew Giant Peace Doves as part of their Peace Day celebration in Los Angeles.

2005- The Earth Hawks flew Roots & Shoots Giant Peace Doves as part of their Peace Day celebration.

2004- Meditation Mount offered an inspirational program connecting with all others around the world, praying for peace. Children from Ojai carried the flags of the world in the World Peace Flag Ceremony as we affirmed, "May Peace Prevail on Earth." There was Celtic harp, didgeridoo, guitar, songs for peace, meditation, a peace poem and finally a World Blessing on the terrace. (www.internationaldayofpeace.org/events/2004wpps/us-california.htm)

PALM SPRINGS , CALIFORNIA , USA
2003- The last day of the Institute of Noetic Science Conference exploring the mystical unseen world of the Universe and Spiritual evolution within the context of science, was the International Day of Peace, and conference participants celebrated with the World Peace Flag Ceremony and joining the 80 member Agape choir in a "May Peace Prevail On Earth" song. SAN RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA, USA
2005- On the 2004 International Day of Peace the Sisters of San Rafael, Dominican Order of Preachers blessed the newly installed peace pole. In 2005 the Sisters led neighbors and students from St. Raphael's Elementary School in prayers and a procession for world peace.

SAN RAMON, CALIFORNIA , USA
2004- Spiritual leader, Amma, asked her devotees around the world to pray for peace at 12 Noon. At the Mata Amritanandamayi Center a Peace Pole was planted at the entrance to the ashram. More than 200 devotees sat in silent contemplation after chanting for peace. Then each wrote their individual prayers on small papers and silently carried them to be deposited at the base of the Peace Pole. (www.internationaldayofpeace.org/events/2004wpps/us-california.htm)
