Elizabeth Cady Stanton was an American social activist and one of the leading figures of the early women's rights movement. Her Declaration of Sentiments, which she presented at the first women's rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848, is often cited as the launch of the first organized women's rights and women's suffrage movements in the United States.
