Pax Christi of the Alleghenies Young Adult Forum

September 6, 2005 - Pax Christi of the Alleghenies Young Adult Forum to Celebrate International Day of Peace

CRESSON, PA – On September 21, 2005 Pax Christi of the Alleghenies Young Adult Forum will hold a Peace Walk from Saint Francis University to Mount Aloysius College. The event will be a celebration of the International Day of Peace. Established by a United Nations resolution in 1981, the International Day of Peace was first celebrated in September 1982. According to the United Nations, the International Day of Peace “should be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

The schedule of events will include:

4:00 p.m. Gather at the Peace Pole at Saint Francis University for opening prayer and remarks. (In the case of inclement weather, gather in the John F. Kennedy Student Center Lounge.)

Peace Walk will commence from the Peace Pole at Saint Francis University to the

campus of Mount Aloysius College. (Security will lead and follow for safe travel over Loretto road.)

Pause to refresh after the Peace Walk at Ihmsen Breezeway/Cosgrave Center.

7:00 p.m. Service continues in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel in solidarity with the global observance of peace.

A candle-light procession will take place from Our Lady of Mercy Chapel to the newly-placed Peace Pole for the dedication and concluding service. A reception with light refreshments will follow and transportation for those who need to go back to Saint Francis University will be provided.

All members of the community are invited to attend all or any part of this event.

Pax Christi of the Alleghenies Young Adult Forum includes members from Saint Francis University, Penn State Altoona College, University at Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Mount Aloysius College, and community members.

We 09-21 Peace Walk: PEACE FROM POLE TO POLE Celebrate U.N. International Day of Peace with a 5-mile walk from the Peace Pole on the Saint Francis campus to the site of the new Peace Pole on the Mount Aloysius campus.  Meet at the Peace Pole (in front of Schwab Hall) at 4:00 p.m. for a brief prayer service before leaving for the walk.  Estimated arrival at Mount Aloysius is 6:15, in time for a light supper (provided free of charge) before the Mount Aloysius Peace Pole dedication at 7:00.  Transportation back to Saint Francis will be provided.
