Scottish Islands join the Peace Pole network.

The IDP was celebrated on 21st Sept in the Scottish Isles, on Uist. The World Youth Congress 2005, which was organised by Peace Child International and The Scottish Executive, presented a Peace Pole to the community in Uist, a gift from Hawaii.

Sheila Fraser, who delivered the pole on behalf of the Congress, writes about the photo:

'There were about 50 people there, which is remarkable for such a small community. As you can see, the local school stopped to join in.  We had to have the planting indoors as the weather was very bad. The community on the Island of Benbecula has plans for a community garden - that they will start next spring. They are hoping that the pole will eventually end up there, but over the winter be transported to all the islands (including Barra) for appropriate events. The people of the Uists and Benbecula pass on their thanks for the Peace Pole.'
