International
Day of Peace

On September 21, 2004, the Keeling-Puri Peace
Plaza recognized the International Day of Peace celebrating the diversity
and cultural heritage of our community. This was our second
annual event. The Montessori
Learning Path presented a mosaic to the Plaza during the opening
ceremony.
The weather was beautiful, as were the thoughts
and feelings of the participants. Many groups participated,
and we thank them all.
The International Day of Peace, established
by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening
of the General Assembly, was first inaugurated on the third Tuesday
of September 1982. In 2002, the UN General Assembly set September
21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.
The Montessori Private Academy made a presentation on creating
Peace Poles.
The
Rock River Square Dancers got the audience "reeling".
