The Prayer Vigil for the Earth
The
International Day of Peace began with a Muslim call to prayer before
sunrise, a Native American Sacred Pipe Ceremony which were followed
by an hour of interfaith ceremonies and songs dedicated to gratitude
for the beauty of the Earth and all life upon it. A Christian service
with the messages of peace followed, a Parent-Child Love and Healing
Ceremony brought harmony to the basic Earth unit of family, and the
Prayer Vigil was gifted once again with a Taiko Drum calling for Peace
and Harmony. A Peace Pole with eight languages was presented for Washington,
DC and its surrounding areas in the afternoon. May Peace Prevail on
Earth!!
A blessing
of the rivers and waters of the Earth happened as the community crossed
the street and study by the Potomac River. Rabbi Sneyer led us in
a purification ceremony for ourselves and the waters. That was followed
by a beautiful African traditional chant and blessing of the waters.
A New York Sufi community offered us continuous prayers for peace
and harmony. Everything concluded with 'making a joyful noise unto
the Lord' as all the drums, singers, dancers, and participants expressed
celebration of what we can create. We followed the heart of our yearnings
as we wove an interfaith, international, dream prayer of Peace on
Earth.
