(2003 World Peace Prayer Society Report)

GOMTINAGAR, INDIA

I am sending the details of the International Day of Peace that City Montessori School organised in CMS Gomtinagar auditorium on 21st September 2003.

Special prayer meeting was held at CMS Gomtinagar to mark the International Day of Peace on
Sunday 21st September 2002. Mr. Rob Wild from USA was Chief Guest on the occasion. Addressing the audience, Mr. Wild advised the participants to consider themselves as world citizens and devote their efforts to promote unity of world and unity of mankind.

Mr. Siggi Sigmarsson and Ms. Sara Schill from
Iceland, who were Special Guests also addressed the audience and apprised them of the need of world peace for healthy growth of the mankind.

'The UN General Assembly, resolution in regard to the International Day in Peace (A/55/L.95 and add.1/55/282 International Day of Peace' was read over to the audience by Mr. R.S. Chandola, Head of the Department of World Unity and Peace Education. A CMS student gave a vote of thanks. I briefly spoke on the need of strengthening the ideas of peace both with in and among all nations and peoples and alleviating tensions and causes of conflict.

The event, though organised with few people, received wide publicity in TV and local print media.

THE VALLEY COMMONWEALTH PUBLIC SCHOOL KASHMIR, publicized and observed the IDP as part of its programme “Education for Sustainable Development.” The school caters to the educational needs of an integrated society. “The prevailing situation in the Kashmir Valley has inflicted deep injuries upon peoples lives, particularly children and women. Besides has caused an erosion of human values among the young generation especially the school children, which is a threat to global peace & tranquility. Keeping in view the importance of peace and it’s inculcation in the young brains of children, we want to observe the International Day of Peace so as to prepare the young generation for the development of peace and its fruits.”  (“WE THE PEOPLES” INITIATIVE Participant)
