CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE SEPTEMBER 21, 2003

BY THE WORLD PEACE PRAYER SOCIETY-THE GAMBIA CHAPTER

The World Peace Prayer Society, The Gambia Chapter joined the United Nations and the rest of the world in the celebration of the International Day of Peace on the September 21st, 2003, which marked the conclusion of the celebration of 100 Days to Peace which started on the 13th of June 2003.
 
The World Peace Prayer Society, The Gambia Chapter booked a holy mass at the Saint Kizito's Parish Church, The Gambia to offer prayers for world peace in consonance with the World Peace Prayer Society Clarion Call for humanity to share the Spirit of Peace globally – be it in our home, library, place of worship/church, work etc – by getting involved in a series of non violent peace building activities for a period of 100 days (from June 13th to September 21st) as advocated by visionary Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich.
 
The World Peace Prayer Society, The Gambia Chapter in Collaboration with Saint Kizito's Parish decided to put additional focus on the United Nations International Day of Peace (September 21st) by re-dedicating the Peace Pole, i.e. replacing the wooden Peace Pole with a bigger metallic one. This Project was sponsored by the World Peace Prayer Society, The Gambia chapter.
 
The Officiating Priest Rev David Mendes, on this day highlighted more in his sermon on the importance of peaceful and harmonious co-existence amongst humanity regardless of nationality, race, ethnicity, religion or class. He emphasized further that we are all one before our lord Jesus Christ.
 
The Peace Pole was presented to the Parish Priest by Mr. Emeka Onyekwere, the Leader/Representative of the World Peace Prayer Society, The Gambia Chapter who re-emphasized on the significance of the Peace Pole during his short speech. Afterwards, the Rev. Father blessed the Peace Pole and the dug-pit followed by the planting of the pole.
 
Finally, the vote of thanks was given by our special guest, and a colleague Representative, Mr. Bockarie Enssah, the representative of the World Peace Prayer Society, Sierra Leone Chapter who was present at the celebration

YOUTH CELEBRATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE BY THE WORLD PEACE PRAYER SOCIETY, THE GAMBIA CHAPTER, ON THE SEPTEMBER 24TH, 2003


The Peace Pal Club and the Youth for Peace of the SOS Hermann Gmeiner Technical Senior Secondary School, The Gambia, joined the United Nations in the Celebration of the International Day of Peace on the 24th of September 2003, a special day for youth all over the world join the United Nations in this celebration.
 
This Youth celebration / Prayer for World Peace took place in the SOS Kinderdorf International "
Peace Garden" situated in the SOS Hermann Gmeiner Technical Senior Secondary School, The Gambia.
 
The special guest in our midst on that day was Mr. Bockarie Enssah, the representative of WPPS-Sierra Leone, who addressed the youth on the importance of active participation in peace-building activities through their active participation in the Peace Pal/Youth for Peace programmes with the topic: "Peace begins with you, for your own good." He was quite impressed with the way peace activities/peace-building was inculcated in the minds of these progressive youths and commended the efforts of his colleague representative, Mr Emeka Onyekwere, in his noble ideas and commitment in educating and directing the ideas of these future leaders towards active participation in grassroots peace building. He further promised to join us in our proposed "National Peace Symposium" come next year 2004.
 
After his address, the Head of the Department of Humanities and Islamic leader (Oustass), Mr. Choye Abibou, led the Moslem Prayer for world peace with conclusion - May Peace Prevail on Earth!
