BANGLADESH
BUDDHIST MISSIONARY SOCIETY observed International Day of Peace on
October 11 last with much enthusiasm. A large number of peace-loving
people including renowned Buddhist Monks and their disciples and followers
gathered on the occasion at village Satbaria, Chandanaish, Chittagong,
on the day. They expressed their solidarity with the peace-loving
people world over and ventilated their determination to make continuous
efforts to establish peace. The participants also conducted a prayer
seeking peace in every sphere of life.
Some of the speakers observed that growing threat to peace in international
arena must be arrested with firm determination failing which human
civilization would be at jeopardy. An aged school-teacher, speaking
on the occasion, voiced his sentiment against unscrupulous elements
conspiring against world-peace in their selfish interest. A social
worker emphasized that countries around the world must be united to
fight-back the conspirators working against peace.
In fact, the entire gathering was voicing its all-out support for
peace. This is the first time that so many people gathered in the
village to demonstrate their disapproval against present hate-campaign
by big-powers and application of force to silence voice of the peace-loving
elements around the globe. A number of speakers expressed gratitude
to Bangladesh Buddhist Missionary Society and its Secretary-general
Rev.Jivanananda Mahathero for organizing such an exceptional gathering.
The gathering was presided over by renounced Buddhist Monk Rev. Dharma
Sen Mahathero and some local leaders were present as special guests.
Several hundred women also attended the gathering and some of them
spoke on the occasion.
