Edward James Olmos is an Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated American actor and director, perhaps best known for his roles as Lt. Martin Castillo in Miami Vice and Admiral William Adama in the Battlestar Galactica re-imagined series. He is also a social activist involved in numerous causes, especially involving Latin-American youth. He is an international Ambassador for UNICEF and in 1998 founded Latino Public Broadcasting, which advocates for diverse perspectives in public television. In 2001 he was arrested and spent 20 days in prison for protesting the US Navy's practice bombings on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico.
