Sheryl Crow is a nine-time Grammy winning American blues rock singer and songwriter who has used her music and her fame to promote many causes for a better world. She first burst onto the scene with her 1994 album, "All I Wanna Do" which netted her "Best Record of the Year" and "Best New Artist." In her second release, her song lyrics addressed important social issues, such as homelessness, a woman's right to choose and ending the proliferation of nuclear weapons. This second Grammy-winning album was banned by Wal-Mart because the lyrics of "Love Is A Good Thing" criticized the chain by suggesting the guns it sells can too easily end up in the hands of America's children. As a breast cancer survivor she has created PSA's and spoken out for cancer research and treatment programs, such as for City of Hope, a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses. In April 2007 she and global warming activist, Laurie David, toured the nation with the Stop Global Warming College Tour to inspire and empower young people to get involved in working for a better world. In May 2007, after hearing Drew Barrymore speak on CNN about her new role as a United Nations World Food Programme Ambassador, Sheryl Crow was deeply moved and inspired to get involved in helping WFP in its work to feed hungry children around the world.
