Sir Norman Angell was one of the greatest advocates for peace in the 20th century. In 1910 his book The Great Illusion argued against war as a way for nations to settle their disputes. The book was translated into 25 languages and sold over 2 million copies. His ideas influenced many peace movements throughout the world. Over a 41 year period he wrote 41 books in support of peace and for over half a century traveled nearly every year on a lecture circuit promoting peace, even until his 90th year. Norman Angell received the 1933 Nobel Peace Prize for his dedication to a more peaceful world.
