Dewi Rana Amir is the chair of YBH Bantaya, a legal aid organization in the Indonesian Central Sulawesi province that works to defend the rights of local indigenous communities. Her organization helps communities reclaim lands that were seized unfairly by the Indonesian government under the dictatorship of President Suharto, and defends communities' rights to their ancestral lands when corporations are unfairly given rights by the government to exploit these community-owned lands for commercial purposes. Dewi Rana Amir was nominated for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize as part of the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize project.
