It takes 15 to 20 pounds of grains to produce 1 pound of meat. The grains and soybeans fed to American livestock each year would feed 1.3 billion starving people.

Since 1977, World Vegetarian Day has been an occasion to help raise awareness about the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. More than a million Americans become vegetarians each year for environmental, ethical, health or humanitarian reasons.
